A Széchenyi István Egyetem jogelőd intézményében, a Közlekedési és Távközlési Műszaki Főiskolán a tantervnek megfelelően valamennyi szakon heti két órában kötelező tantárgy volt a testnevelés.
Ehhez az infrastruktúrát a főiskolától távolabb eső városi sportlétesítmények bevonásával tudta biztosítani az intézmény. Ennek ellenére a KTMF csapatai már akkor sikeresen szerepeltek a bajnokságokon.
A Széchenyi István Egyetem mára kiemelten fontosnak tartja a sportolók támogatását, a sportkapcsolatok erősítését. Az egyetem helyben teljes körűen biztosítja a sportolási lehetőségeket akár amatőr, akár profi sportról van szó. A sportolókat nemcsak magas színvonalú felsőfokú képzések várják Győrben, hanem ösztöndíjlehetőségek is.

At the legal predecessor institution of the Széchenyi István University, the Transportation and Telecommunication Faculty of Technical Sciences, according to the curriculum, physical education was a compulsory subject for two hours a week in all majors. The institution was able to provide the infrastructure for this only by involving urban sports facilities located further away from the college. Despite this, the KTMF teams were already successful in the championships. The Széchenyi István University now considers the support of athletes and the strengthening of sports relations to be extremely important. The university fully provides sports opportunities locally, whether it is amateur or professional sports. Athletes can expect not only high-quality higher education in Győr, but also scholarship opportunities.
