Waberer’s, a company listed in the premium category of the Budapest Stock Exchange, has reached another important milestone with the ceremonial opening of its expanded service hall in Mosonmagyaróvár. This investment, worth nearly HUF 1 billion, not only supports the efficient and reliable operation of the company’s fleet of more than three thousand vehicles, but, in cooperation with Széchenyi István University, also contributes to the training of future professionals, as the facility will serve as a practical training workshop.

The expansion of the Mosonmagyaróvár site enhances the company’s flexibility and cost efficiency, while also offering a significant logistical advantage. Its favourable location, close to the Austrian and Slovak borders, allows vehicles to be serviced on schedule without unnecessary empty runs. This results in reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. Each year, this expansion is expected to save approximately 3,700 empty runs and 1.34 million kilometres, thereby preventing the release of nearly 1,000 tonnes of WtW carbon dioxide equivalent – a significant environmental achievement.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by László Budai, Technical and Facilities Director of the Waberer’s Group; György Szucsány, Property Development Director; Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO; Dr István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture; and Dr Bálint Filep, President of Széchenyi István University (Photo: András Adorján)

The workshop, first opened by Waberer’s twenty years ago in 2005, currently employs twelve professionals, with plans to increase this number to twenty-five in the near future.

In 2024, the workshop completed the servicing of nearly 2,700 tractors and 2,100 semi-trailers, operating in two shifts. With the new service building, the current capacity will more than double, enabling the servicing of around 10,000 vehicles annually. In addition to expanding repair capacity, the tyre repair workshop and vehicle washing facilities essential for the smooth operation of the fleet will also double in capacity.

The service base plays a key role in supporting the company group’s sustainability goals. The new facility is highly energy-efficient, featuring full LED lighting and a rooftop solar panel system to minimise environmental impact. Equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and a skilled workforce, the workshop ensures the proper maintenance of not only traditional diesel vehicles but also those with alternative powertrains, thus providing comprehensive support for modern and sustainable fleet operations.

The development does not end here: following the opening of the new service base, the company will immediately begin expanding the available vehicle parking and service areas.

Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO of Waberer’s International, stated: “Over the past two years, Waberer’s property development projects have progressed at an impressive pace; we are rapidly developing and modernising our own sites. The expansion in Mosonmagyaróvár represents a key element of this process, simultaneously increasing the efficiency of our fleet and supporting our sustainability objectives. At the same time, this opening is more than just a building development, as it is closely linked to our strategic partnership with Széchenyi István University. Together, we aim to ensure the training of logistics professionals, promote practice-oriented education, and advance green logistics innovations.”

Educational Cooperation and Establishment of a Vocational Training Workshop

From this academic year, Waberer’s and Széchenyi István University have launched a closer cooperation. Within this framework, the company is offering its service halls in Mosonmagyaróvár and Budapest as training facilities for the University. The collaboration aims to transfer practical knowledge and train the professionals of the future. A new off-campus teaching site will also be established in Mosonmagyaróvár, contributing to the development of skilled professionals in the region.

Dr Bálint Filep, President of Széchenyi István University, emphasised: “Our University considers it a priority to equip our students with the most up-to-date knowledge and practical experience. The partnership with Waberer’s allows our students to acquire the skills essential to their field in a real industrial environment, to familiarise themselves with the latest solutions in sustainable logistics, and to establish direct connections with the labour market. We are convinced that this collaboration not only represents a tremendous opportunity for them but also contributes to the economic development of the region and the country.”

The event was also attended by Dr István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture and Member of Parliament for the region, who himself earned his agricultural engineering degree in Mosonmagyaróvár. In his speech, he highlighted the shared role of the city and the company in achieving sustainability and economic development goals, stating:

“This site provides both livelihoods for families and prospects for young people. It creates new jobs that, by relying on the knowledge and diligence of local people, strengthen the economy of the entire region and the countryside.”

He added that all this demonstrates the continuous strengthening of the background industry that supports road freight transport—an essential element for every sector, from food supply to export markets.
