UNI-GYŐR SWIMMING SE FINISHED AT THE TOP OF THE NATIONAL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nearly half a thousand competitors from 20 countries competed for the championship titles at the Olympic qualification national championships held in the Duna Arena in Budapest between 9-12 April. The competitors of the UNI-Győr Swimming Sports Club won 8 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals in the extremely strong field. Dalma Sebestyén, a student of Széchenyi István University and one of the ambassadors of the MEFOB FEST, collected eight medals – including four golds – on her own.

With a great performance, the youngsters from Győr outperformed all teams and finished at the top of the medal table, ahead of giants like BVSC, Kőbánya SC, Vasas and Ferencváros.

„I’m very proud of the team, not only for what they achieved in the pool, but also for the values they represent outside the pool. During my days here, I could feel the concentration, the will and above all the presence of a sportsperson in every moment. I am proud that our very young team has done so well,” said head coach Árpád Petrov. He added that this year their swimmers are participating in four world competitions at adult level only – World Championships, European Championships, Olympics, Short Course World Championships – so – although the national championships were not the main focus of the season – it is a great success that UNI-Győri Swimming SE is at the top of the Hungarian swimming medal table.

In the international field, Dalma Sebestyén, a student of Széchenyi István University, Győr, one of the ambassadors of this year’s MEFOB Fest, won the most medals: she returned home with four gold, two silver and two bronze medals from the national championship. „Luckily I have a lot of work to do this year, this tournament was just a trip. The two training camps provided by the federation were scheduled before the summer European Championships and the Olympics, so we won without the help of the training camps, which is more than encouraging. I would like to thank the team and my loved ones, without their perseverance I would certainly not have been able to perform so well. I am proud that I was able to experience this moment as a member of UNI-Győri Swimming SE ” – said Dalma Sebestyén.
