More than two hundred and twenty students received their diplomas on 16 and 17 February, 2024 at Széchenyi István University. This weekend, the Faculty of Pedagogy, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Engineering held their graduation ceremonies.

At the joint ceremony of the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences approximately 90 graduates were awarded their diplomas on 16th February at the Széchenyi István University. At the ceremony, the Deans of both faculties, Dr. Attila Pongrácz and Dr. Angéla Somogyi, welcomed the graduates, which was followed by a speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Csaba András Dézsi, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences and Mayor of Győr.
„Among the rare, celebratory moments in our lives, the most precious are the ones when we can celebrate our own achievements. All of you here today will be awarded your diploma of an essential and distinguished profession due to your own talent, skills and diligent work. The modern knowledge you have received from this university can be used anywhere in the world and it also includes the knowledge of your qualified teachers with both theoretical and practical experience”,
he stressed.
Then, on behalf of the graduating students, Kata Luca Szőts, a BA student majored in Primary School Teacher, bid farewell to the institution, and Phchith Phonevina, a graduate of the international programme, gave a toast on behalf of the international graduates.

Diploma and Doctoral Degree Ceremony of the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences
More than 50 graduates of the Ferenc Deák Faculty of Law and Political Sciences received their diplomas on 17 February. The ceremony took place in the Main Hall of the New Knowledge Building of the University, where the newly graduated lawyers were awarded their doctoral title.
Dr. Jácint Ferencz, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Labour and Social Law, welcomed the guests and underlined the importance of law and law degrees in today’s world.
“As every day we face challenges to which it is impossible to provide answers without the knowledge accumulated in the social and legal sciences, the professional knowledge acquired in our institution is needed both within and outside of the borders of our country. Globalisation, climate change, the rise in social inequalities and the need to transform the welfare state are all problems that recent graduates possess the means and responsibility to solve,”
he emphasized.
It made the event even more special that one of the recent graduates, Péter Csepin, a member of the Bakony Poroszkálók Preservation and Sports Association, arrived with other members of the association on horseback and in traditional costumes to receive his diploma. (Photo: Martin Csete)
On behalf of the graduating students, a law student Csilla Szemenyei said goodbye to the university, and the „Teacher for Students” award was presented to Dr. Áron Ősze, assistant professor at the Department of Constitutional Law and Political Science. The awards having been presented, the graduates took their oaths and received their diplomas, after which Prof. Dr. Péter Smuk, Dean of Faculty, welcomed the new graduates.

The ceremony of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences
At the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences eighty-nine young adults were awarded their diplomas. At the beginning of the ceremony, Attila Peterka, Strategic Director of West Hungária Bau Kft. and Vice President of the National Association of Construction Contractors, welcomed the participants and stressed the power of partnership in education.
Dr. János Szép, Dean of the Faculty, emphasised in his speech that the diploma incorporates a set of knowledge and competences acquired at the university, however, it does not equal to the final knowledge of the graduates, but the competence of their readiness to be able to think as an engineer and to solve problems with an engineering approach. He added that it is important for young professionals to improve and update their knowledge continuously.
Dr. Péter Bach, Head of the Department of Building Design, welcomed the graduates of the foreign language courses, and on behalf of the graduates, Árpád Hajdú and Benjamin Labar said goodbye to the university.
Dr. Diána Sarolta Henézi, Vice Dean of Education of the Faculty, received the Teachers for Students Award, and then students with and outstanding performance and engagement in community-building activities were also awarded. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the diplomas and the oath-taking of the recent graduates.
