On 20 November, Times Higher Education (THE) published its latest Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, which measures performance in research connecting multiple academic fields. This year, Széchenyi István University has been ranked between 601–800 globally, placing it as the fifth best higher education institution in Hungary among more than 25,000 universities worldwide.
THE is known globally for its comprehensive and subject-specific university rankings. The aim of the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings is to provide an overview of institutions that achieve significant results in cross-disciplinary collaborations, with the assessment focusing on research quality, impact and the strength of cooperation. This year, Széchenyi István University appears in the 601–800 category, ranking as the fifth best institution in Hungary.
In recent years, the University in Győr has implemented an increasing number of projects in which technical, IT, economic, agricultural, legal and social science competences are jointly represented, contributing to the versatile applicability of scientific results. Despite the expansion of the field, the University continues to hold a secure position on the list, serving as important feedback on this work.
“Research that connects multiple disciplines represents one of the core values of our institution. The work of our lecturers and researchers becomes particularly significant when different fields meet and new answers emerge to the complex questions of our time. We are grateful to all our colleagues whose dedication has contributed to this achievement. Our strong performance is greatly supported by the European-standard research infrastructure developed at the University in recent years, as well as the well-thought-out support system that provides a stable framework for scientific work. This includes substantial scholarships, covering publication costs, access to professional databases and the organisation of international conferences. Together, these create an environment in which our researchers can work successfully,” said Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations at Széchenyi István University.
The institution is also listed in four other THE rankings. It appears in the 1501+ category of the World University Rankings, in the 501–600 category among “Young Universities”, and in the 401–600 category of the Sustainability rankings – within which it ranks among the world’s top 200 universities in the category of “Sustainable Cities and Communities”. In the World University Rankings by Subject, SZE is in the 601–800 range in the field of economics and in the 1251+ category in engineering. In the current Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, it is listed alongside renowned universities such as the leading Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, the California Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley.
