The start of Győr’s festival season each year is marked by the Széchenyi University Days (SZEN), which will kick off on 22 April on the University campus. The event, open to everyone, offers a wide range of sports and community programmes alongside concerts for visitors.

SZEN is the most popular event of Széchenyi István University. Over the past decade, it has grown from a series of student days into a true festival and has become the first major event of the long outdoor season on a national level.

This year, a broad range of Hungarian performers will once again take to the Audi Hungaria Main Stage, set up in the courtyard of the Bridge Students’ and Faculty Club. Alongside Desh, Beton.Hofi and Dzsúdló, Bruno x Spacc, KKevin, Belano, BSW, Girlhood and Punnany Massif will also perform. The University Club Stage will host, among others, VZS, Mary Nótár and Groovehouse, while some of the country’s most popular DJs—such as Pixa, Metzker Viktória and Lili Regán—will keep the atmosphere going throughout the event. A special highlight is the debut of Westside Waves, a drum and bass formation founded by former members of the Halls of Residence Studio. In addition, the highly successful silent disco will return for three days this year, where participants can listen to music through wireless headphones, switching between multiple channels instead of using traditional loudspeakers.

“As organisers, we have a dual objective: on the one hand, to ensure that students and staff have a great time, and on the other, to welcome residents of Győr and the surrounding area to join the festival, as anyone can purchase tickets for the evening events,” said Dávid Vályi Nagy, President of the University Student Union. He added that although the event officially runs from 22 to 25 April, certain programme elements will begin as early as on Sunday, 19 April.

“We start with the traditional ‘Dorm Dodgeball’ on Sunday evening, followed by the SZE Derby driving skills competition, and we are also organising a beer pong championship. On Wednesday, the Chill Park will open on the grassy area in front of the K3 Hall of Residence, where tired festival-goers can recharge, with professional hairdressers, make-up artists and massage therapists also on hand. Next to the sports hall, bumper cars and laser clay pigeon shooting will provide additional entertainment,” said Zalán Söveges, Vice President of the University Student Union responsible for event organisation. Also as part of the daytime programmes, E.ON will be present on Wednesday with a large exhibition area, numerous activities and surprises.

Not only music and dance events attract students—sports opportunities are also highly popular. During these few days, young people can try out popular sports practised at the university, such as B33 basketballvolleyball and pilates. In addition, the final of the SZE Cup football tournament will take place during the university days, the 1st SZE Dragon Boat Campus Cup will be launched this year, and the traditional Püspökerdő run will also take place. As an added incentive, participation in the programmes may count towards the completion of physical education courses.

“In cooperation with Red Bull, we are bringing one of the Hungarian qualifiers of the Four 2 Score small-sided football tournament to SZEN, with the winner qualifying for the final in Budapest. Two former international footballers, Sándor Torghelle and Péter Kabát, will attend the event as scouts, each selecting one player from the eliminated teams to continue competing in the consolation round,” revealed Milán Malomsoki, Presidential Commissioner for Sport of the University Student Union. He highlighted that the event will take place on 22 April on the artificial turf pitch.

Ticket purchase

The daytime programmes of the Széchenyi University Days are free to attend, while entry to the evening concerts and parties requires a wristband. As in previous years, not only university citizens but also external visitors may take part in the event. Tickets and passes can be purchased on the website of the Bridge Students’ and Faculty Club, as well as in person at the Student Information and Services Centre.
