Cooperation between the North Indian Amity University—whose delegation recently visited Győr—and Széchenyi István University may begin in the fields of management and economics. According to the plans, the partners would jointly develop initiatives ranging from short student exchange programmes and joint doctoral supervision to research partnerships and dual-degree programmes, potentially involving information technology, civil engineering, or the social sciences as well.

The main campus of Amity University is located in Noida, a city of around 640,000 inhabitants not far from New Delhi in northern India. The institution operates more than ten educational sites across the country and maintains thirteen additional locations abroad, including in London, New York, Dubai, and Beijing. A delegation from the dynamically developing private university recently visited Széchenyi István University in Győr with the aim of elevating their existing relationship to a higher level.

During the discussions, Professor Dr Meghna Sharma, head of strategic collaborations at Amity University and director responsible for international partnerships and programmes at its School of International Business, emphasized that, as a research-oriented university, their goal is to establish fruitful scientific collaborations. These would contribute to academic advancement through conferences and joint publications. She also pointed out that activities centered on the needs of young people can attract many international students to the participating institutions, thereby broadening their global visibility and alumni networks.

Amity University is considered unique in several respects: in addition to the language of instruction, English, students are required to study at least one additional foreign language, take courses developing communication and behavioural skills, and have the opportunity to participate in short intercultural exchange programmes. “We not only send students abroad, but also host numerous international student groups within this framework. Young people visit our campus, and we organize cultural and leisure programmes as well as company visits for them, fully tailored to the needs of the partner institution. We warmly welcome students from Győr as well,” said Professor Dr Meghna Sharma. She added that the university would be pleased to welcome researchers from Széchenyi István University to its large-scale international conference planned for next year.

Participants in the meeting held on the Győr campus included: Dr Judit Koltai, Vice Dean for International and Accreditation Affairs at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics; Dr Adrienn Dernóczi-Polyák, Vice Dean for Academic and Educational Affairs; Dr Jimnee Deka, staff member of Amity University’s management sciences division; Dr Sándor Remsei, Dean of the Kautz Faculty; Professor Dr Meghna Sharma, Head of Strategic Collaborations at Amity University and Director for International Partnerships and Programmes at its School of International Business; Réka Orosz-Barczi, International Director of Széchenyi István University; Márta Mészáros, Head of the Centre for Mobility and Scholarships in the International Directorate; Dr Eszter Szabó-Szentgróti, Associate Professor at the Kautz Faculty and Marcella Telek, Head of the Centre for International Communications and Alumni in the International Directorate. From the perspective of the University in Győr, Dr Judit Koltai, Vice Dean for International and Accreditation Affairs at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics, noted that the faculty is at the forefront of international cooperation, as it hosts the largest number of international students. “In terms of our role in the global higher education arena, it is significant that this year we organized the Kautz Conference for the second time, welcoming several hundred researchers from thirty-two countries. Our faculty offers practice-oriented programmes, and our scientific activity is collaborative and clearly research-focused. Our aim is to support regional development through our research and to achieve results of international significance, and partners such as Amity University play a particularly important role in this,” she stated.

While the foundation of the relationship lies in management and economic sciences, the partnership may later be strengthened in several other areas, including information technology, engineering, or the social sciences. Initially, the cooperation may involve short student exchange programmes and research and publication collaborations, and later it could even include joint dual-degree programmes—further reinforcing an international academic network that spans continents.
