On 3 September, at its headquarters in Budapest, Waberer’s International Nyrt. signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Széchenyi István University in Győr. The partnership focuses on developing a skilled workforce for the logistics and automotive sectors, joint research and development projects, and green logistics solutions that promote sustainability.

Hungary’s leading logistics service provider, Waberer’s, and Széchenyi István University, a key player in Hungarian higher education, have entered into a strategic partnership. By combining the company’s industry expertise with the University’s academic and research capacity, the parties aim to contribute to the competitiveness of the Hungarian economy.

The partnership places particular emphasis on practice-oriented education, as Waberer’s experts will actively participate in the University’s teaching practices, support students’ professional development as lecturers and supervisors. The agreement also covers the launch of dual and micro-credential programmes, as well as scholarship schemes, thereby strengthening the engineering career model. In addition, students will benefit from hands-on opportunities, acquiring experience in real industry settings – a key advantage for their future career success.

The cooperation goes beyond education, as the parties will also implement joint research and development projects, with a special focus on green logistics. Within the framework of the partnership, the Waberer’s Infrastructure and Logistics Competence Centre will be established to create a practice-oriented knowledge base for logistics and infrastructure development. Plans include setting up Waberer’s research base at the University’s Győr Innovation Park. Research activities will concentrate on future-oriented areas such as fleet optimisation, intelligent route planning, data-driven decision support, and the development of environmentally friendly logistics technologies.

Another shared objective of Waberer’s and Széchenyi University is to strengthen their international visibility. To this end, they plan to participate jointly in scientific conferences, engage in international research networks, and publish joint research papers to enhance the recognition of Hungary’s logistics profession.

“Our partnership with Széchenyi István University plays a key role in laying the foundations for future logistics solutions. I am convinced that the practice-oriented training of future professionals will not only accelerate the sector’s development but also strengthen the competitiveness of the Hungarian economy. The combination of Waberer’s professional expertise with the University’s research and innovation capacity creates a knowledge base that can be decisive in the long term. As an alumnus, I know from personal experience that the University places great emphasis on developing emotional intelligence, strategic thinking and an interdisciplinary approach – values that are becoming even more important with the rise of artificial intelligence,” said Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO of Waberer’s International Nyrt.

“With its strong market presence and innovations, Waberer’s is a key player in the logistics industry. We are proud to work together in a strategic partnership, as together we are building a knowledge and research background that will provide our students with up-to-date professional knowledge and real industry experience, while also contributing to the competitiveness of the region and the country. Our common goal is to serve a sustainable future as Hungary’s and the region’s leading logistics and scientific hub,” emphasised Dr Bálint Filep, President of Széchenyi István University.
