1974-ben nyitotta meg kapuit a hallgatók előtt a mai Széchenyi István Egyetem Egyetemi Könyvtár és Levéltár elődje, a KTMF könyvtár. Azóta hatalmas fejlődésen ment át nem csak az infrastruktúra, de a könyvtári szolgáltatás is, hiszen az informatikai fejlődésnek köszönhetően ma már a több mint kétszázmillió forint értékben előfizetett, a kutatást és az oktatást támogató, távolról is elérhető tudományos adatbázisok, online könyvek, folyóiratok biztosításától a vállalkozások kiszolgálásán át az innovatív ötletek szabadalmi tanácsadásáig terjednek.
Az Inno-Share épületben található Egyetemi Könyvtár és Levéltár presztízsértékű országos szakmai elismerést vívott ki magának 2017-ben, amit 2021-ben meg is védett. A térségben betöltött vezető szerepe és professzionalizmusa visszaigazolásaként az Egyetemi Könyvtár és Levéltár Minősített Könyvtár címet tudhat magáénak 2026-ig. Elnyeréséhez a teljes körű minőségmenedzsment rendkívül összetett kritériumainak kell megfelelni. Emellett Levéltárként gyűjti, szakszerűen rendszerezi, megőrzi és használhatóvá teszi a Széchenyi István Egyetem és elődintézményeinek maradandó értékű iratait, valamint az egyetem oktatóinak, neves képviselőinek személyi hagyatékait és az egyetemen oktatott szakmák történeti dokumentumait.
Ennek tükrében még izgalmasabb elolvasni, hogy az intézmény első könyvtárvezetője, dr. Tabiczky Zoltánné 1974-ben a kezdeti nehézségek ellenére, már akkor szakértő céltudatossággal kezdte el letenni a jelenlegi intézmény alapjait.

The legal predecessor of today’s Széchenyi University University Library and Archives. the KTMF library opened it’s gates in front of the students in 1974. Since then not only the infrastructure has gone through a major progression, but the library service as well, because thanks to the IT development, today with a value of more than 200 million forint subscriptions paid, the support contains the field of research and education, remotely accesible scientific databases, online or e-books, and it ranges from providing magazines to serving businesses, through innovative ideas and patent consulting.
The University Library and Archives, which can be found in the Inno-Share building, had achieved a prestige-like professional recognition throughout the country in 2017, and in 2021 this acknowledgement was defended. To confirm it’s professionalism, and leading role in the area, the University Library and Archives are able to own the Qualified Library title until 2026. To receive this title, the library needs to meet the needs of the quite comprehensive criteria of quality management. Other than that, as an institution of archives, it collects, professionally organizes, preserves, and makes the permanently valued documents of the Széchenyi István University and it’s predecessor’s usable, as well as the personal estates of the University’s teachers, notable representatives, and the historical documents of the professions educated at the university.
In light of this, it is more than exciting to read, that the first library manager, dr. Zoltánné Tabiczky, despite the early struggles, already started to lay the foundations of today’s institution in 1974, with a sense of purpose.
