The Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry established its Women Leaders’ Club in 2024 to provide an inspiring and supportive community for its members. The Club’s most recent meeting was held at Széchenyi István University, where participants were introduced to the institution’s strategy, internationalisation activities, new types of academic programmes, and developments taking place in the Győr Innovation Park.
Széchenyi István University is a committed partner of the Hungarian chamber system, which celebrated the 175th anniversary of its establishment last year. In the interest of socio-economic cooperation, the Győr-based institution supports the competence development of businesses in the region through the joint operation of a company, UniChamb Ltd., while also organises events in collaboration with the chambers. The University maintains particularly close ties with the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with which it is connected in many ways, including through the Women Leaders’ Club.
The approximately twenty-member Club was founded in 2024 with the aim of creating an inspiring professional community to support female leaders in the region in their professional development and in strengthening their role in economic life. The most recent meeting of the Club, which focuses on knowledge transfer and sharing, was hosted by Széchenyi István University. Participants first visited three of the institution’s laboratories – the Packaging and Environmental Resistance Testing Laboratory, the Radiofrequency Testing Laboratory and the Road Construction Laboratory – where experts presented their activities.

The remainder of the professional visit took place at the University’s Győr Innovation Park. The female leaders present gained insight into the institution’s strategic ambitions through Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations, and were also introduced to innovative forms of higher education in a presentation by Kata Farkas Némethné, Head of the University’s Centre for Adult Education and Skills Development Centre. Professor Dr Márta Konczosné Szombathelyi – herself a member of the Club – gave a presentation entitled “Talent Development at the University and Opportunities for Business Engagement”, while Aténa Vojnovics, Communication and Events Coordinator, spoke to the audience about the activities and development plans of the Győr Innovation Park. The series of presentations concluded with Kornél Vági, Operational Director of the University’s for Higher Education and Industrial Cooperation Centre, who explored the topic of technology transfer and the practical utilisation of academic knowledge.

“The Club has a programme format in which we visit the successful businesses of our members; for example, we have had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the operations of Audi Hungaria. The programme held at our University marked an important milestone in the sharing of experience, with the laboratory visits proving particularly popular. The presentations also attracted considerable interest, as members were able to learn how they might connect more closely with the University’s activities through talent development, training or corporate engagement,” explained Professor Dr Márta Konczosné Szombathelyi, President of the University’s Scientific Students’ Associations Council and Talent Support Council. She emphasised that maintaining close relationships with companies and promoting knowledge transfer are of strategic importance to the institution, and that the Women Leaders’ Club is composed of strong female leaders representing significant companies who can serve as role models for students building their careers.
