At the joint ceremony of Széchenyi István University’s Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, and the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, a total of 172 graduates received their diplomas. The inauguration of new Doctors of Law also took place during the event.

On 18 February, the three faculties of Széchenyi István University – the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Pedagogy, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, and the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences – held a joint graduation and doctoral inauguration ceremony at the Győr City University Hall.

The graduates of the Apáczai Faculty were welcomed by Dean Dr Attila Pongrácz, who emphasised in his speech the importance of commitment to one’s vocation and social responsibility. As he stated, the faculty currently offers nine bachelor’s and five master’s programmes, as well as more than twenty postgraduate specialist training courses. “We are continuously developing our short-cycle programmes, which – taking into account the aspects of digitalisation and sustainability – provide development opportunities for institutional and corporate professionals through training methodology,” he added. In connection with the faculty, he highlighted innovation alongside the transmission of values, mentioning the LEGO experiential pedagogy classroom and the STEM classroom established in the previous academic year, where the educational opportunities of the 21st-century digital world are explored.

Dr Angéla Somogyi, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences, stressed that their aim is to develop an education and research portfolio that responds to the real needs of society by linking the fields of health and sport sciences – whether in terms of professional supply, strengthening disciplines, or scientific innovation. “Through numerous new programmes, we support this approach: this year our portfolio has been expanded with a master’s programme in nutritional sciences, and in the future, we will launch master’s programmes in Sport Mental Coaching, Sport Management and Specialist Coaching, as well as postgraduate specialist programmes for sport psychologists and sport healthcare professionals. Our plans also include the introduction of bachelor’s programmes in psychology and sport sciences, as well as – in cooperation with the specialists of the National Institute for Sports Medicine – a physiotherapist specialisation within the nursing and patient care bachelor’s programme,” she said.

On behalf of the graduates of the Apáczai Faculty, Virág Dedics bid farewell to the alma mater, while Alina Kinga Szendi did so on behalf of the graduates of the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. This was followed by a performance by the students of the Visual Arts Primary School, Vocational School and Dormitory, maintained by the University.

During the ceremony, the Pro Auditoribus Award, granted by the Student Union of Széchenyi István University, was presented. In the diploma classification, Franka Rendek, a student of the bachelor’s programme in Human Resources, Labour and Social Administration, was recognised.

Following the presentation of diplomas, the inauguration of the Doctors of Law completed the event. “I do not have the slightest concern that you will be able to find employment in your profession, and that your employers will recognise and remunerate your valuable knowledge – provided it is complemented by diligence,” said Professor Dr Péter Smuk, Dean of the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, in congratulating all graduates after the oath-taking ceremony. He emphasised that, in the long term, the only viable path is to remain honourable and to practise one’s chosen profession with integrity. “Seek opportunities to carry out creative work, to serve life and humanity. Be active and supportive members of our alumni community. Help our faculty to become even better, so that together we may be proud of your knowledge and of Széchenyi István University,” the Dean concluded.
