Students and staff of Széchenyi István University won two gold, three silver, and five bronze medals at the country’s largest university sports event, the festival of the Hungarian University–College National Championship (MEFOB Fest). The event, held in recent days, attracted more than 1,500 athletes.
In terms of participation, MEFOB Fest is the largest domestic multi-sport event, organized for the fifth time by the Hungarian University–College Sports Federation. This year’s host was the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, where over 1,500 athletes competed in 13 sports for championship titles on its campus.
At this year’s festival, students and instructors from Széchenyi István University — organizers of the 2024 edition — won a total of ten medals: two gold, three silver, and five bronze.
Darts featured in the MEFOB programme for the first time this year: Brigitta Linda Sándor won the women’s student category, while Orsolya Zalavári took bronze. Regina Vintze claimed gold in the women’s 60-shot air rifle event, remaining unbeaten. In the women’s water polo tournament, after exciting matches, the Széchenyi István University team finished second with six points.

In the university basketball championship Final Four, UNI Győr SZESE represented the University in the women’s competition, while Mosonmagyaróvár UNI Győr competed in the men’s. The women’s team, as defending champions, reached the final again and ultimately finished second, while the men’s team secured third place. Fanni Baffy and Lilla Rozmán (women), as well as Bálint Köcse (men), were selected for the All-Star team.

Dr Tamás Gyömörei, Head of the Centre for Sports and Recreation of Széchenyi István University and President of its sports club (SZESE), highlighted that beyond the now almost customary basketball medals, it was especially pleasing to see the strong performance of their table tennis players under the leadership of Dr Gábor Élő. “Hopefully, alongside these amateur medals, we will soon achieve success again at the professional level in this sport. The gold medals in darts and sport shooting are unique achievements—we are very grateful to Brigitta and Regina for their outstanding performances,” he said.
