For the third time, the WHB Győr Rally will be held from 12 to 14 September. The event’s free-to-attend races will take place in the city centre of Győr, at Széchenyi István University, and on the surrounding stages. The campus and Dunakapu Square will host a variety of exciting side events. For the first time this year, the rally will be live-streamed online, allowing it to be followed from anywhere.
From 12 to 14 September, the WHB Győr Rally returns. Friday’s city centre prologue will be followed on Saturday and Sunday with the classic special stages between Bakonybél–Kőrishegy, Kisgyónbánya–Csőszpuszta, Tés–Olaszfalu and Ravazd–Tényő, as well as at Rábaring. At Dunakapu Square, visitors can enjoy an e-sport simulator, a vintage vehicle exhibition and a car show, while on campus, the University’s student teams will showcase their innovations.

“We are proud to once again host one of the stages of the 3rd WHB Győr Rally, as our institution is strongly connected to motorsport in many ways,” emphasised Professor Ferenc Friedler, Rector and Vice-President for Scientific Affairs at Széchenyi István University. He added, “Our teams – such as the world record-holding SZEnergy Team – are among the global elite, and our institution’s goal is to prepare students for successful careers. Each race contributes to the advancement of technical and technological knowledge, something we particularly value at our University, which has a strong focus on engineering sciences.”
“Year after year, our University takes an increasingly significant role in the organisation of the WHB Győr Rally, enabling us to involve our students, lecturers and experts as well. It is gratifying that the profession recognises our work in the field of motorsport, and it is important for us that the city, the country and, above all, young people choosing their career paths can also learn about it. We offer training programmes where young people interested in motorsport can nurture their passion throughout their studies,” highlighted Gergő Lőrincz, Director of Services and Branding at SZE.
Tamás Őry, Chairman of the Organising Committee, stressed that the steadily strengthening cooperation with the university provides an excellent foundation for a great race. “In the past two years, we have received positive feedback from both fans and drivers. Once again, we have strived to create a programme that suits them, which is why we have introduced some changes. One of the most important is that this year all stages can be attended free of charge,” he revealed. He added, “The weekend’s distance has been increased to 160 kilometres by altering the route, enabling the Rally 2 field to line up for separate races on both Saturday and Sunday. The focal point of the programme will be Győr’s Dunakapu Square, where we will begin on Friday afternoon with the city stage. A novelty is that this will be a prologue rather than a speed stage, meaning that the times here will not count towards the final result. First Rally 2, then Historic, and finally the first-class rally cars will drive through the course, which once again runs alongside the University,” he explained.
Zoltán Szujó, President of the Hungarian National Motorsport Association, said, “Győr has a long-standing tradition in rallying, which is why the event was met with enormous interest two years ago, when it returned to the city after more than three decades. I would like to particularly highlight the role of Széchenyi University, which even defines itself as a motorsport University. The students who today compete in Formula Student races may one day feature in the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1, or in the World Rally Championship.” He emphasised that thanks to broad support, high-quality organisation and the University background, this event represents a new level in Hungarian motorsport.
At the press conference, three drivers also spoke about their expectations for the rally. Gergely Németh, co-driver of the ORB 1 championship-leading pair and a native of Győr, said, “We are in the lead with a solid advantage, which we would like to maintain or increase, but not at any cost. Last year we finished second here after fighting for the victory throughout. We will see what happens this year.”
Dávid Faltusz, also from Győr and leading the Rally 2 championship, is particularly looking forward to the downtown prologue as a driver. “Personally, I would introduce a city stage in every rally to bring the sport closer to the spectators. We hope that, once again, many people will come out this year,” he said.
Attila Rongits took part in the former Lutra Rally in Győr 34 years ago. “Back then, I never thought that more than three decades later I would again be at the start of a rally in Győr. Fortunately, I have remained in this world. As an experienced competitor, I am very excited for the weekend, where we can expect good organisation, exciting stages and excellent rivalries,” said the driver.
For the first time in the rally’s history, the programme will also be live-streamed. “Thanks to Telekom Campus Network’s solution, the stages of the 3rd WHB Győr Rally will have dedicated bandwidth, making the event available online for the first time via the Telekom Live YouTube channel, with exclusive live coverage. From the Telekom Studio, drone footage and onboard camera views will enhance the broadcast, and thanks to the tracking system, spectators can follow the race standings in real time,” said Csaba Fegyver, Director of Strategy and Key Projects at Telekom. The online broadcast will be available here.
Due to the event, several roads in Győr will be closed on Friday between 16:00 and 23:00, including Jedlik Bridge, Töltésszer utca, Hédervári út, Dunakapu Square and the area around Káptalandomb. Local residents may pass on foot with a residence card, but cars will need to avoid the closed areas, with only emergency vehicles permitted. On Saturday and Sunday, further restrictions will be in place around the special stages, with detailed information available on the gyorrally.hu website.
With the main sponsorship of West Hungária Bau Ltd. – and significant support from Győr Projekt Ltd. – the race will feature the ORB 1, ORC, Historic and Rally 2 fields of the national championship. Uniquely, the second division field will run two full races, meaning that award ceremonies will be held for the best competitors on both Saturday and Sunday. Before and after Friday’s downtown prologue, junior competitors will also take to the stage, while the audience will be entertained by the Showtime programme, in which stars of other motorsport disciplines will also get behind the wheel. The event starts at 16:50 on Friday with the downtown stage, with more than one hundred entrants completing a total of eleven specials stages over the weekend.
