The motorsport division of the Széchenyi István University Sports Club, Uni Győr WMS, concluded an exceptionally successful season. Eszter Németh, the best female speed car racer of 2024, finished in second place in the international classification of the Swift Cup Europe and third place in the overall standings of the Hungarian Championship. Furthermore, the institution’s team became the team champion of the National Karting Championship, with two of its drivers winning individual championship titles and earning the right to participate in the World Championship.

Széchenyi István University is a key player in mobility, not only through its quality education and research, development, and innovation activities but also through their increasingly outstanding performance in motorsport. The results of the institution’s sports club’s motorsport department, UNI-Győr WMS, prove this. The karting team, consisting of more than forty members, was involved in numerous series, including the Hungarian, Italian, and European Championships in the Easy Kart and Rotax categories.

The drivers secured several valuable podium finishes during the season, with the greatest success achieved by Vilmos Willisits Jr. and Bende Szabó: the former became the Hungarian Champion in the Junior category, while the latter won the title in the DD2 category. The two young competitors also earned the right to participate in the world final, considered the World Championship for kart racers, which will be held in Bahrain from 29 November to 6 December, with the best competitors from more than 60 countries taking part. Thanks to the individual results of its members, UNI-Győr WMS also won the Hungarian Team Championship.

Eszter Németh, a car racer and e-sports athlete of the Hungarian National Team, is also developing her skills within the Széchenyi University motorsport division. The young woman from Kapuvár first achieved success on a simulator and then in karting, but soon switched to speed car racing, where she was voted the best Hungarian female driver last year. The year 2025 brought even greater success for her than before, as she secured third place overall in the Hungarian standings and second place in the international classification of the Swift Cup championship.

“I managed to have a very good season, as I was able to participate in all the races of the series, and I stood on the podium in both the domestic and European overall standings. I gained a lot of experience during the six race weekends. I was able to race on renowned circuits such as the Red Bull Ring in Austria or the Balaton Park Circuit. I have many beautiful memories from the races, but of course, there were challenges too, which we solved as a team,” the young competitor said, evaluating her season. She added that she is proud to achieve her successes under the colours of Széchenyi István University, as racing under the institution’s auspices represents immense prestige for her.

“I am a first-year student of Recreation Management and Health Promotion at the University of Győr, so I constantly experience how much this support means, which helps not only in racing but also in obtaining my degree. The institution makes it possible for athletes to reconcile their studies with elite sport; without this, I would not be able to perform both on the race track and in the lecture hall at the same time. Of course, now that the season has ended, my university tasks will significantly increase, so in the weeks ahead, I will be shifting into a higher gear in my studies,” Eszter Németh revealed.

Dr Tamás Kolossváry, Head of the Győr Innovation Park of Széchenyi University, highlighted on behalf of the motorsport department that the Hungarian and international results of the young talents are an important confirmation for the institution. “One of the goals of our University’s motorsport strategy is to create conditions that lay the foundation for the further successes of our competitors,” he said. “In addition to working with junior athletes, we also place great emphasis on training experts. This is served by our unique programmes, our Hungaroring Automotive and Motorsport External Department, our world-leading student teams – the SZEnergy Team, the Arrabona Racing Team, and the SZEngine – and the upcoming Formula Student Symposium international motorsport conference as well.”
