The establishment of the Hungaroring Automotive and Motorsport External Department by Széchenyi István University in Győr and Hungaroring Sport Zrt. serves multiple purposes: nurturing young talent, advancing engineering expertise, and promoting joint research and development with industry partners. This new organisational unit will contribute to Hungary’s emergence as the motorsport innovation hub of the Central European region.
Moreover, the collaboration provides opportunities for the University’s world-class student competition teams—the SZEnergy Team, Arrabona Racing Team, and SZEngine Team—to showcase their work and continue their professional development. The newly established Hungaroring Automotive and Motorsport External Department will further deepen this partnership, reinforcing Hungary’s position as the Central European centre of motorsport innovation.
The partnership between Széchenyi István University and Hungaroring Sport Zrt. is entering a new phase with the creation of the Hungaroring Automotive and Motorsport External Department. This initiative enables students to learn directly from professionals working at the forefront of global motorsport, while the Hungaroring will gain access to the University’s academic knowledge base and a pool of future engineers.
Following the Hungarian government’s decision to designate the automotive and motorsport industry as a strategic sector, the joint department of Széchenyi István University and the race track to be established at the Hungaroring will support the successful realisation of this goal. By integrating science, education, and research and development, it will foster talent and unlock Hungary’s innovation potential in motorsport.
The close relationship between Széchenyi István University and the Hungaroring is not new. The two parties signed cooperation agreements in July 2022 and again in November 2023, within the framework of which the Győr-based University hosted its own stand at this year’s Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. The partnership also made possible the launch of the Motorsport Manager postgraduate programme in September, with experienced Hungaroring professionals joining the teaching staff.
