Széchenyi István University is ranked 399th in the latest European ranking published by the international higher education rating organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), thus continuing to be counted among Europe’s top 400 higher education institutions. This result is particularly significant in light of the fact that this year’s edition of the list has expanded by almost 300 universities.

QS, one of the two largest international organisations assessing higher education institutions, published its European ranking on 28 January, in which it evaluated around 4,000 universities from the 46 member states of the Council of Europe on the basis of teaching quality, research performance, internationalisation and links with the labour market. As the sixth best university in Hungary, Széchenyi István University holds the 399th position this year, retaining its place among the continent’s top 400 universities.

The prestige of the ranking is well illustrated by the fact that its leading positions are occupied by globally influential institutions such as the University of Oxford, ETH Zurich and the Imperial College in London. Based on certain indicators in the ranking, Széchenyi István University enjoys an exceptionally favourable reputation among companies and employers, while there is significant international student interest in part-time programmes. All this reflects well the institution’s strong labour market integration and international appeal.

“This result once again confirms for our institution that the conscious development of our international relations, as well as the integration of education and research into global networks, are fundamental conditions for competitiveness. To this end, we provide modern infrastructure, scholarship opportunities, and support for publications and conference participation, which contribute to making the results of the work carried out at Széchenyi University visible to the wider professional community and to further strengthening our position,” explained Dr Eszter Lukács, the University’s Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations.

She added that from the perspective of Europe’s future, it is a key issue for universities to provide students with knowledge, a mindset and internationally competitive degrees that represent real value in the labour market. “The strategy and daily operations of Széchenyi István University also serve this goal,” she said.
