A new community space called Study Lunch has been inaugurated at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Széchenyi István University, which offers students a calm and inspiring environment for studying, conversation and collaboration. The investment, costing approximately 40 million HUF, was realised with a 13 million HUF contribution from Agrofert Hungária Kft., strengthening the partnership between the university and economic stakeholders.

It is of paramount importance for Széchenyi István University to develop its Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences in Mosonmagyaróvár, which is a major base not only for academic excellence but also for strengthening local communities. Numerous investments have been completed in recent years: since 2021, the castle and the castle promenade have been revitalised, the Castle Captain’s Building has been renovated, the Smart Farm and the Smart Garden have been completed, and the infrastructure for practical education and research has been expanded with modern demonstration plants. The newly opened Study Lunch is an integral part of this process: it functions as a community hub where academic work and informal meetings mutually reinforce each other. Special attention was paid to natural light, flexibly movable furniture, and a homely atmosphere during the design of the space.

„Our cooperation with the Agrofert group of companies dates back over half a century, and we have elevated it to a new level in recent years. In our joint work, we see not only a professional partnership but also shared thinking and future shaping. With the inauguration of the Study Lunch, we have created a space where students can meet, study together, build their relationships and themselves – all that truly constitutes the value of university years. It is particularly important to us that this development was also shaped by their ideas and feedback,” said Dr Tamás Tóth, Dean of the Faculty, in his opening speech.

Tünde Bartha, the country manager of Agrofert Hungária Kft., also attended the event and explained that they believe students can truly develop when they are surrounded by an inspiring environment. „This support is not simply infrastructure development, but an investment in agricultural experts of the future. It is highly important for us to work with young graduates who approach agriculture with a modern perspective, responsible thinking and openness. The Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty trains precisely such experts, which is why we were happy to support the realisation of this community space,” she added.

„As students, a large part of our everyday lives, in addition to classes, takes place in the interim time: when we prepare, coordinate, rest, or recharge. Until now, there was no real common place for this. From now on, there is a space where the part of university life that cannot be put on the timetable is also accommodated: connection, ideas and friendships,” emphasised Attila Tatai, President of the Faculty Student Union.
