International Relations: Nebraska’s Secretary of State Visited SZE in Győr

A high-level American delegation led by Robert B. Evnen, Secretary of State of Nebraska, recently visited Széchenyi István University. The aim of the visit was to strengthen the University’s international relations, explore opportunities for cooperation in agricultural and innovation, and enhance Hungarian–American partnerships.

As Secretary of State, Robert B. Evnen is responsible for Nebraska’s international relations. His diplomatic activities include representing the state’s economic, educational, and trade interests. Key priorities of his include promoting foreign investment and fostering collaborations in agriculture and industry, with particular emphasis on education and research stakeholders. His visit to Széchenyi István University aimed to identify opportunities that could serve as the foundation for future cooperation between the American state and the institution in Győr.

As part of the programme, the delegation—which included Sidonia Morales, Honorary Hungarian Consul of Indiana, and Béla Kocsy, Agricultural Attaché at the Embassy of Hungary in Washington—first visited the University’s Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences in Mosonmagyaróvár. Discussions with the Faculty’s leadership focused on agricultural research, sustainability goals, and technological and business-related connections.

“Our faculty is committed to modern food production, agricultural digitalisation, precision farming, and sustainable development. We believe that these areas not only shape the future of domestic agriculture but can also serve as a foundation for international collaborations that benefit both parties. This meeting provided an opportunity to identify Hungarian–American connections that could lead to joint educational and research projects,” emphasised Dr Tamás Tóth, Research Professor and Dean of the Faculty.

The delegation visited the Győr campus the following day, where they met with Dr Árpád Tóth, Chief Financial Officer of Széchenyi István University, and Péter Németh, Head of the HUN-REN International Centre of Excellence. Discussions focused on international research collaborations, the promotion of student and staff mobility, and the technological infrastructure provided by the Győr Innovation Park. As part of the programme, the Széchenyi István University MedTech Campus was also introduced. This campus places emphasis on education and healthcare services alongside health technology research. Key research areas—such as the digitalisation of healthcare, sensor technology, and rehabilitation technologies—align with similar fields of focus at the University of Nebraska.
