„Hommage in black and white: a tribute to the city of Győr and Széchenyi István University” was the title of an exhibition opened at the Innovation Park of Széchenyi István University in Győr on 19 April. The exhibition of the works of Ferenc Nagy, photographer, will be open for a month.
Győr Innovation Park is the home of research, development and education. The building is also home to the Design Campus of Széchenyi István University, which coordinates the design, graphic design and architecture courses of the university. But the facility, inaugurated last year, also has another role to play: as a cultural forum, it acts as a bridge between the university and the citizens of the city. The exhibition of photographer Ferenc Nagy, recently opened in the building, serves this purpose.
Dr. Csaba András Dézsi, Mayor of Győr, emphasized in his welcome speech that it is a great pleasure for him to see the result of the artist’s talent and work exhibited to the public. „These pictures have a special effect, because they convey emotion and a distinctive atmosphere. I hope that as many people as possible will be captivated by the details and that many will be curious about the emotions conveyed by the photographs,” he said.
Bernadett Ágota, director of the Design Campus, explained that the „Hommage in black and white” exhibition will hopefully be followed by more exhibitions of similar themes by individual artists. „Photography as a means of communicating design is also part of the curriculum of the Design Campus courses. This exhibition represents classical values and is presented to us as an intergenerational visual poem by Ferenc Nagy,” she said.

In 2015, the photographer moved from advanced portrait and nature photography to the built environment. His images can be seen in Budapest and Győr, in exhibitions and permanent collections, and his most popular works are photographs of buildings and symbols of Győr. His exhibition „Hommage in black and white: a tribute to the city of Győr and the Széchenyi István University” is a monochrome view of the world through the eyes of the artist, journeying between portraits, nature photographs and cityscapes.
„This exhibition has given me the opportunity to present a more artistic selection of material that does not follow a single theme. The motto of the exhibition is twofold: Győr is in our heart and the university is in our heart,” Ferenc Nagy said at the opening.
