Students of Széchenyi István University delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 FISU University Canoe Sprint World Championships, held in Szeged between 17 and 20 August. Three students represented the Hungarian national team and Széchenyi István University, achieving podium finishes in every event in which they competed.
Kis-Batka Imola Johanna, an architecture student, won the gold medal in the women’s canoe single 500 metres, earning the title of World Champion, and claimed the bronze medal in the women’s canoe single 200 metres. Teaming up with Szarka Krisztián in the mixed canoe double 500 metres, she also delivered an outstanding performance as they won the event, securing Imola’s second World Championship title.

Rumi Gergő, a Recreation Management and Health Promotion student, won the silver medal in the men’s canoe single 200 metres, while he and Molnár Csanád finished first in the men’s canoe double 500 metres, earning the title of World Champions.

Aradi Bátor, a part-time Recreation Management and Health Promotion student, lined up alongside Halmy Lőrinc in the men’s kayak double 1,000 metres and, after an excellent race, finished in second place, claiming the silver medal.

The World Championships programme also included a dragon boat exhibition race, in which the team of Széchenyi István University competed in the 200-metre event and finished in third place.
