A pedagogical methodology masterclass organised by the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences of Széchenyi István University has begun with the participation of teachers from seven countries around the world. The programme, taking place between 5 and 11 July, aims to provide up-to-date methodological knowledge for professionals who preserve and pass on the Hungarian language and culture through weekend Hungarian schools operating across the diaspora.
For more than two decades, Széchenyi István University has organised summer in-service programmes for teachers working in weekend Hungarian schools outside the Carpathian Basin. These educators can now also participate in a two-semester postgraduate specialist education programme and the pedagogical methodology masterclass built on it, which awards a micro credential. This year, 21 teachers from the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, Canada and Germany enrolled in the programme. The aim is for participants to return to their communities enriched with contemporary professional knowledge.
At the opening ceremony, Dr Attila Pongrácz, Dean of the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, emphasised that the University considers it part of its mission to combine the most advanced pedagogical knowledge with the values of Hungary’s cultural heritage, thereby supporting the work of weekend Hungarian schools worldwide.
Dr Viktória Kövecsesné Gősi, Director of the Teacher and Educator Training Centre and academic lead of the programme, highlighted that teachers working in the diaspora play a key role in transmitting the Hungarian language and culture to future generations. She added that participants—who will complete the programme’s remaining requirements during the autumn semester following the in-person training in Győr—will explore a wide range of methodologies during the week, from the educational application of artificial intelligence to drama pedagogy, all of which they will later be able to apply independently.
The programme is being delivered with the support of the Ministry for Social Affairs and Culture and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
