The Faculty of Design and Performance Arts at Széchenyi István University held graduation ceremonies on 4 July in the building of the former synagogue. During the morning ceremony, graduates from the music performance, music teacher education and conducting programmes received their diplomas, while the afternoon ceremony was dedicated to graduates of the design programmes. On both occasions, outstanding student and staff achievements were also recognised with a range of awards.

The Faculty of Design and Performance Arts offers practice-oriented programmes in both music and design that provide students not only with a high level of professional expertise, but also foster creativity, artistic freedom, and the ability to continuously innovate. Building on the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies, graduates are now prepared to begin their careers as performing artists, teachers, conductors or designers.

„A diploma does not mark the end of a journey, but rather the beginning of a new professional chapter. In both artistic and teaching careers, lifelong learning and continuous professional development are essential. At the same time, our graduates leave the University with a solid professional foundation on which they can build throughout their lives,” emphasised Dr Csaba Hontvári, Dean of the Faculty, during the graduation ceremonies. Addressing the graduates of the design programmes, he also recalled that since the launch of the architecture, industrial design, and graphic design programmes in 2021, the conditions supporting these programmes have steadily improved thanks to the University’s commitment. He highlighted that the Győr Innovation Park, inaugurated in 2023, has since become the home of the Faculty’s Design Campus.

During the morning ceremony, the Students’ Union presented its Pro Auditoribus Award. A certificate of recognition was awarded to Zita Nagy, a bachelor’s student in classical oboe performance, while diploma-level recognition was presented to Dániel Almási, a bachelor’s student in classical bassoon performance, Milán Molnár, a student in the undivided music teacher education programme, and Veronika Ilona Varga, a master’s student in classical instrumental performance. This year’s Kónya Award was presented to Ákos Bódai, a bachelor’s student in classical violin performance, together with a violin handcrafted by master luthier Lajos Kónya Jr. Commendations were also presented for outstanding academic achievements: Panka Böröndy (undivided piano teacher education programme) and Eleonóra Anna Baján (undivided violin teacher education programme) received awards for the best thesis; Zita Nagy (bachelor’s programme in classical oboe performance) and Richárd Lázók (master’s programme in classical violin performance) were recognised for the best graduation concert; while Manna Hazafi (undivided cello teacher education programme) and Ferenc Illés (master’s programme in clarinet teacher education) received commendations for the best final teaching practice.

The afternoon ceremony celebrated graduates of the faculty’s design programmes. The Students’ Union’s Teacher for Students Award was presented to Master Instructor András Bakucz. Within the Pro Progressum Awards, Júlia Márkus, a bachelor’s student in industrial design, received a certificate of recognition. Pro Auditoribus certificates of recognition were awarded to Réka Gazdag, a bachelor’s student in graphic design, while diploma-level recognition was presented to Jonatán Bence Králl (graphic design), Zsófia Nagy (industrial design), and Boróka Csenge Szabó-Fehér (architecture), all bachelor’s students. The Department of Industrial Design’s Cutting Edge Special Award was presented to Helga Gottschling, also a bachelor’s student in industrial design.
