Open-Air Concerts at SZE: Bridge Garden Rocks On Until October

Six years ago, Bridge Garden opened as Győr’s only permanent open-air concert venue, and it is once again welcoming visitors for several months this year. From May to October, some of Hungary’s most popular artists will perform on the banks of the Moson-Danube, giving audiences the opportunity to enjoy virtually every major act on the domestic popular music scene, including BSW, Road, Quimby and Fiesta. The season will close on 17 October with a concert by Tankcsapda in the courtyard of Széchenyi István University’s student club.

A few years ago, a permanent open-air stage was still considered a rarity in Hungary, but today it has become an integral part of the country’s cultural life. During the pandemic, the entertainment venue of Széchenyi István University, the Bridge Student and Faculty Club, was among the first to experiment with this concept. Time has proven the idea successful: this year, Bridge Garden begins its sixth season, providing a festival-like concert experience for residents of Győr and the surrounding region over several months.

“As was the case last year, the start and end of the season are our busiest periods, with fewer performances taking place at the height of summer. We have made sure not to clash with major local events, such as Győr’s summer opening and closing weekends. However, there are no quiet periods either, as free weekends are dedicated to family days and private events.” explained Péter Németh-Bende, Venue Manager.

Bridge Garden opened on 9 May with a concert by Ossian, and will close on 17 October — later than ever before — with a farewell performance by Tankcsapda. The programme will feature enduring stars of Hungarian rock music, including ByeAlex, Elefánt, Bagossy Brothers Company and Kárpátia. One of the season’s highlights is that Road and Lord will perform together for the first time this autumn.

“The acoustic evenings were very popular with audiences, so we are planning to hold them again this year. We have also considered the atmosphere after the concerts. Once the live performances have finished, themed music will play on the terrace until closing time. We hope our guests will appreciate this.” added the manager of the Bridge Student and Faculty Club.
