Nearly 6,300 people attended Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University\u2019s Open Day<\/em> held on 20 January. The Gy\u0151r City University Hall was filled with young people preparing to continue their studies, who had the opportunity to meet lecturers and students from the institution\u2019s nine faculties, as well as its dual and professional partners, in person. Visitors could attend presentations, take part in campus tours and laboratory visits, and also receive detailed information about the admissions points calculation system.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year, Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University\u2019s\u00a0Open Day<\/a>\u00a0event enjoys great popularity among students preparing for further studies, as it allows them to gain first-hand experience of the institution. They can learn about the range of programmes on offer, student services, accommodation options in halls of residence and the rules of admissions points calculation, among other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRecently, our University\u00a0<\/em>achieved significant success at the Educatio Exhibition<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in Budapest as the co-host of this year\u2019s EFOTT Festival at Lake Velence. Even at that event, many visitors indicated that they would also attend our Open Day. Five thousand people registered in advance, and registration continued continuously on site during the event, so in the end nearly 6,300 visitors came to get to know the Institution more closely,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0said Gerg\u0151 L\u0151rincz, Director of Services and Branding. He added that visitors could meet not only the faculties, but also many of the University\u2019s corporate partners, explore international opportunities and learn about student teams. In addition, they could take part in laboratory, library and hall of residence tours, view the\u00a0Design Campus<\/a>\u00a0exhibitions at the University\u2019s Gy\u0151r Innovation Park, and witness spectacular experiments at the\u00a0Mobilis Interactive Experience Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests of the open day were welcomed by Dr Zsolt Kov\u00e1cs, Vice-President for General and Educational Affairs, who delivered a detailed presentation on admissions-related information. As he explained, the institution\u2019s popularity is reflected in last year\u2019s record admissions figures, achieved despite the fact that entry point thresholds increased for a significant proportion of programmes. He added that a high number of applicants and correspondingly high entry point thresholds are expected again this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding points calculation, he highlighted that out of the maximum 500 points available, 200 are awarded based on the combined percentage results of two matriculation examination subjects, although an intermediate-level examination is worth only 67 points. Secondary school results and the average of matriculation exams can provide a further 200 academic points, while institutional points may total up to a maximum of 100.\u00a0\u201cThese can be earned through additional achievements related to studies, such as at least one advanced-level matriculation exam and at least one intermediate-level language certificate. Points can also be obtained through outstanding academic, artistic or sports competition results, or by participating in preparatory courses organised by the University, which we offer as part of our programme entitled Pathway to Higher Education,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin Ny\u00e1ri came to the open day from Berzsenyi D\u00e1niel Secondary School in Celld\u00f6m\u00f6lk.\u00a0\u201cI came with my friends because several programmes interest us at the Faculty of Informatics and Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transport Engineering, and the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering. I would like to continue my studies in a technical field, for which the Gy\u0151r-based university offers excellent opportunities. Several members of my family have also studied here, and I have heard many positive things from them as well,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Petra Horv\u00e1th is a student at P\u00e1lffy Mikl\u00f3s Technical School of Commerce and Logistics in Gy\u0151r, and primarily wishes to continue her studies in the field of tourism. \u201cI am currently studying economics, but I also hold qualifications as a bartender, barista and waiter. I am very interested in hospitality and would like to elevate my knowledge in this area to higher education level \u2013 here at Sz\u00e9chenyi,\u201d<\/em> she emphasised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerg\u0151 Moln\u00e1r, who came from the Bercs\u00e9nyi Mikl\u00f3s Transport and Sports Vocational School in Gy\u0151r, also envisions his future here.\u00a0\u201cI am studying economics, commerce and logistics, and I would like to continue along the logistics pathway. That is why my first stop was the stand of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transport Engineering, where my options were presented in detail. I would very much like to take advantage of these opportunities,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dorina Bordoh\u00e1nyi visited the Open Day from Szombathely to explore the programmes of the De\u00e1k Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences.\u00a0\u201cI have always been particularly fascinated by books and series about criminal cases, which is why I decided that I would like to pursue studies in the field of law and criminology. I have long been drawn to Gy\u0151r\u2019s atmosphere, dynamism and vibrant life, and my impressions of the University are very positive, so I arrived at today\u2019s event with clear goals in mind,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she underlined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
