Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University is now included in three subject categories in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Subject Rankings. In addition to Business and Economics and Engineering, the institution has been listed for the first time this year in Computer Science among universities worldwide. This expansion indicates that the University\u2019s educational and research performance is becoming internationally visible across an increasing number of disciplines.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the world\u2019s most prestigious international higher education ranking organizations, Times Higher Education, publishes its subject rankings annually. In the rankings for 2026, released on January 21, universities were assessed in 11 subject areas, drawing on the indicators used in the overall world rankings. Institutions were evaluated on the basis of five criteria: teaching, research environment, research quality (scientific publications), international outlook, and industry income. This methodology enables a comparative assessment of universities\u2019 performance within individual academic fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the notable developments in the latest rankings is that Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University has been included for the first time in the Computer Science category, in the 1001+ ranking category. As a result, its presence in the subject rankings has expanded from two to three areas. The University continues to hold its previous positions in Business and Economics (601\u2013800 category) and in Engineering (1251+ category).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Dr Eszter Luk\u00e1cs, Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations at Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University, subject rankings provide important feedback on institutions\u2019 development trajectories. \u201cIt is of particular significance when a university is represented in international rankings across multiple fields, as this reflects the diversity and strategic development of its educational and research activities. In the decisions of international students, alongside the attractiveness of the city and quality of life, the professional standard of the chosen field of study and the international recognition of lecturers and researchers are playing an increasingly important role. These results confirm the value of this work, for which the dedicated staff of our faculties of Business and Economics and Engineering deserve special recognition,\u201d<\/em> she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that the achievements in Business and Economics, Engineering, and now Computer Science further underscore that the activities of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University are becoming ever more closely integrated into global scientific and industrial cooperation networks. This integration is crucial for strengthening students\u2019 competitive knowledge and for the continued expansion of international partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n
