Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University could collaborate in the fields of information technology, electrical engineering and technology with one of China\u2019s most innovative higher education institutions, the Beijing University of Chemical Technology. The Asian delegation recently visited Gy\u0151r not only to sign the agreement but also to learn more about the University\u2019s educational and research and development activities.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developing Chinese partnerships is of strategic importance in Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University\u2019s internationalisation efforts. In addition to fostering cultural relations between the two countries through popular programmes<\/a>, the University has already formed partnerships with several higher education institutions. Most recently, the delegation from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology visited the Gy\u0151r campus, reinforcing their commitment to future collaboration. During their visit, the delegation familiarised themselves with the activities of the Gy\u0151r Innovation Park, and met representatives of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the preparatory meeting preceding the signing of the cooperation agreement, Marcella Telek, Head of the Centre for International Communication and Alumni, presented the University\u2019s internationalisation strategy, highlighting its strong performance in global higher education rankings and its growing student community.\u00a0\u201cIn 2016, our first international students arrived through the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme, and two years later we also began welcoming self-funded students. In the current academic year, nearly 17,000 students \u2013 among them one thousand international students \u2013 study at Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University, coming from almost ninety countries around the world. We now offer 54 English-taught academic programmes,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she explained. Ms Telek also emphasised that, in addition to education and research and development, the University\u2019s connections with industry are of equal importance \u2013 with the Gy\u0151r Innovation Park being one of the key locations for such cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n

During the visit, it was noted that the University in Gy\u0151r offers five double-degree programmes in partnership with American, Italian, Chinese, Portuguese and Indian universities, while continuing to remain open to expanding international mobility opportunities for its students. In addition to presenting sports opportunities and the services operating under the University\u2019s umbrella, Marcella Telek also spoke about the student competition teams and the University\u2019s innovation ecosystem. The guests gained further insight into the latter through Szilvia Vad\u00e1sz-Kalocsai, who introduced the work of the University\u2019s Digital Development Centre. Dr Ferenc Lilik, Vice-Dean for Research and International Affairs at the Faculty of Informatics and Electrical Engineering, presented the Faculty\u2019s programmes and research profile, aligned with the activities of the Beijing University of Chemical Technology. Krisztina Csiba, Head of the Centre for Student Recruitment of the International Directorate, outlined the steps required for the development of double-degree programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On behalf of the Chinese delegation, Dr Su Haijia, Vice-President, expressed her pleasure at the signing of the agreement and stressed her institution\u2019s commitment to cooperation. She stated that the educational, research and innovation activities they had seen provided an excellent foundation for a forward-looking partnership. Dr Zhang Fan, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, presented the focus areas of the Asian institution in detail. The university, with nearly 29,000 students and three campuses in Beijing, places engineering at its core, complemented by programmes in humanities, economics and management, as well as law. The institution is ranked in the 701\u2013750 category of the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, while it appears in the 401\u2013500 range of the Times Higher Education global rankings. It also places great emphasis on its international partnerships, collaborating with 170 institutions in 64 countries, including the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, the University of California in the United States, and the University of Tokyo in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n
