An eight-member delegation from North-West University\u2014one of the most prominent higher education institutions in the Republic of South Africa\u2014visited Hungary. At Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University\u2019s Gy\u0151r and Mosonmagyar\u00f3v\u00e1r campuses, the guests were introduced to the institution\u2019s educational, research, development and innovation activities, with particular emphasis on academic disciplines of mutual importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The visitors were welcomed at the Gy\u0151r campus by Dr \u00c1rp\u00e1d T\u00f3th, Chief Financial Officer; Dr S\u00e1ndor Remsei, Dean of the Kautz Gyula<\/em> Faculty of Business and Economics; Dr G\u00e1bor Dogossy, Dean of the Audi Hungaria<\/em> Faculty of Engineering; and Dr J\u00e1nos Sz\u00e9p, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences. The University was presented by R\u00e9ka Orosz-Barczi, Head of the Centre for International Programmes and Alumni, who highlighted the main milestones of Sz\u00e9chenyi University\u2019s internationalisation process, its portfolio of English-language programmes, and the opportunities offered to students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOur University has nearly 16,000 students and approximately 1,200 academic teaching staff, researchers and administrative staff. Of our more than 250 study programmes, over 50 are offered in English. We currently welcome 1,000 international students from nearly 80 countries,\u201d<\/em> the Centre\u2019s manager explained. She emphasised that the institution\u2019s growing global presence is evidenced by its position on the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education world university rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During the discussions, the delegation was also introduced to the University\u2019s innovation parks in Gy\u0151r, Mosonmagyar\u00f3v\u00e1r and Zalaegerszeg. Dr Tam\u00e1s Kolossv\u00e1ry, Director of the Gy\u0151r Innovation Park, presented its operations. \u201cOur strategic objective is to place the knowledge that exists within our institution at the service of industry and the economy, and to ensure that the intellectual products we generate are put to practical use through our own enterprises or our partnerships with companies. We have eight faculties, and in four disciplines\u2014agriculture and forestry, medicine, physics, and environmental sciences\u2014we are ranked among the top 850 universities worldwide according to QS,\u201d <\/em>she stated. Further presentations were delivered by Professor Liezel van Dyk on engineering education and research, Professor Hazel Mufhandu on biological sciences, Professor Ellen Rungani on management sciences, Professor Helgard Raubenheimer on business mathematics and informatics, Dr Patience Kovane on the midwifery programme and Duncan Raftesath on the university\u2019s innovation and corporate engagement activities. Professor Du Plessis also highlighted a platform developed for students and staff focussing on artificial intelligence, stressing the importance of encouraging the responsible use of new technologies in higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the second day, the delegation visited the Albert K\u00e1zm\u00e9r Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences in Mosonmagyar\u00f3v\u00e1r, providing an excellent opportunity to strengthen international ties and discuss future collaboration. The guests were introduced to the \u00d3v\u00e1r campus, explored the institution\u2019s historical exhibition and library, and gained insight into the faculty\u2019s more than 200-year-old traditions and infrastructure.
