Dr G\u00e1bor Sulyok, Professor at the Department of International and European Law of the De\u00e1k Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University, will lead the institution’s Doctoral School of Law and Political Sciences starting from the new academic year. He has been teaching in Gy\u0151r since 1999 and was the Faculty’s Vice-Dean for Scientific Affairs between 2007 and 2008, and again from 2010 to 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
„I greatly enjoy teaching here because the university in Gy\u0151r has undergone an incredible pace of development and growth, yet it is characterised by such a strong and cohesive community where students can truly flourish. I was particularly pleased to accept the appointment because, back when I was Vice-Dean, I was responsible for compiling the accreditation material for the doctoral school,”<\/em> he emphasised. He stated that the doctoral school’s aim is to secure a supply of scientific researchers and lecturers for the faculty and to support applicants in their scientific activities to achieve the highest possible standards. We, too, are open to the cooperation of scientific disciplines; topics are appearing increasingly prominently in our doctoral school which are predominantly in the field of law, but also touch upon other disciplines,”<\/em> he emphasized. As examples, he mentioned the University’s research related to autonomous vehicles, telecommunications, space research, drone development, health science, and biotechnological research, all of which are accompanied by legal questions that need solving. He pointed out that it is therefore becoming increasingly common for, say, engineers to undertake legal studies to gain comprehensive knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He highlighted that many areas of law have strong international aspects, and we are increasingly confronted with global phenomena where unified legal regulation is essential. „Our goal is therefore to strengthen our international embeddedness, connections, and cooperation, and to expand our international publishing activities. Furthermore, attracting international students is also an important task, as legal education in Gy\u0151r addresses issues that are current worldwide, such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, space research, and space law,”<\/em> he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr Sulyok G\u00e1bor thanked the University and the Faculty leadership for their support, then highlighted that his management work will be assisted by Dr M\u00f3nika Nogel, habilitated senior research fellow, as Scientific Director; Dr Dalma \u0150sze-Tak\u00f3, assistant professor, as Scientific Secretary; and Vikt\u00f3ria Ol\u00e1h, Research Management Specialist. \u201cOur doctoral school strives to contribute effectively to the institution’s scientific performance and to assist its students in realising research of international standards. We invite and await the future doctoral candidates to join us in this,”<\/em> he underlined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr P\u00e9ter Smuk, Dean of the De\u00e1k Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, said that although the scientific strategy of the Faculty focuses on the work taking place in the departments and research groups, the doctoral school is organically linked to these. Through the scholarships it provides, researchers working on current topics can receive support, and joint scientific events and publications offer a platform for discussing the results. „I am convinced that through this close cooperation and inspiring environment, building upon the previous achievements of the Faculty of Law and the doctoral school, we can reach a new level in international visibility and in research that is also beneficial for our partners,” <\/em>he emphasised. He added that it is of paramount importance that the faculty’s lecturing staff is enriched by young <\/strong>doctoral students who have been educated in high-level scientific work. „The sustained development of legal education in Gy\u0151r, which is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year, is also attributable to the fact that it offers a predictable scientific and academic career path for talents nurtured locally,”<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr Eszter Luk\u00e1cs, Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations, highlighted: „Professor Dr G\u00e1bor Sulyok has enormous international experience, which we greatly appreciate. We are convinced that the Doctoral School can significantly contribute to the work of colleagues in law and doctoral students in the international research network, especially in interdisciplinary areas.
