Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University held its 32nd Academic Day on 23 September on its Gy\u0151r campus. For the institution, this day is not only about preserving traditions but also about reflecting and celebrating, as the community looks back together on the achievements of the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSz\u00e9chenyi\u2019s life work was centred on the idea that science and progress are the guarantees of our national existence. Our institution also operates in this spirit, serving the competitiveness of our country and our wider region through its research, education and innovations,\u201d<\/em> began Professor Ferenc Friedler, Rector of the University and Vice-President for Scientific Affairs, in his ceremonial address. He added that the University is Hungary\u2019s fastest developing higher education institution, as demonstrated by its international standing, its scientific contributions and the successes of its students, all of which rest on professional organisational operations and a committed community of lecturers, researchers and staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAll these aspects together enable us to take responsibility for future generations. We also pay particular attention to providing answers to current problems of science\u2014whether it be applications of artificial intelligence or other epoch-making questions. (Photo: Andr\u00e1s Adorj\u00e1n)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Awards and Distinctions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Following the welcoming remarks, the presentation of the University\u2019s prestigious awards took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Honorary Doctorate<\/strong> of the University was conferred upon Ambassador Katalin Bogyay<\/strong>, who, as Hungary\u2019s 15th Permanent Representative to the United Nations, President of the 36th Session of the UNESCO General Conference, and President of the Hungarian United Nations Association, has always represented the causes of peace, sustainable development, education and the arts throughout her career. \u201cWe live in chaotic times, at once in chaos and in order. The crisis we feel around us is ecological, ethical, existential, economic, epistemic and emotional. We risk losing control over all those fundamental things we have taken for granted for far too long. I believe we must focus on values such as love, truth and friendship. As young people, this may seem natural, but as adults we must not abandon these,\u201d<\/em> she stressed in her acceptance speech. She emphasised that her career had been defined by continuity and perseverance in upholding values. She thanked her family, in particular highlighting the support of her husband, Dr Tam\u00e1s L\u0151rinczy, and her son, who gave her strength and faith. (Photo: Andr\u00e1s Adorj\u00e1n)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The title of Honorary Citizen of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University was awarded to Dr \u00c1gnes Luk\u00e1cs<\/strong>, Deputy CEO of Hungaroring Sport Zrt., and to Imre Pint\u00e9r-P\u00e9ntek<\/strong>, Vice-President of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Gy\u0151r-Moson-Sopron County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00c1gnes Luk\u00e1cs has been committed to serving higher education for more than twenty years, and for a decade has maintained close professional ties with the university, supporting its development with particular attention. In her acceptance speech she emphasised that within the institution she could work together with professionals who, beyond the academic world, also set an example in business thinking and dedication to science. \u201cWhen I arrive at the Hungaroring, the following inscription greets me at the entrance: \u2018Welcome to the realm of speed.\u2019 I associate this with the university in Gy\u0151r, as the dynamism of the institution represents precisely the momentum we implement on a smaller scale in Mogyor\u00f3d,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr \u00c1gnes Luk\u00e1cs received the title of honorary citizen of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University. Through his dedicated work, he has significantly contributed to industrial partnerships, thereby increasing the competitiveness of the region. \u201cIt is one of the greatest honours of my life to be named an Honorary Citizen of this University. It is easy to say that we should connect the economy with higher education, but it is far from simple to realise. Already in 1989, we thought that there was knowledge on the Gy\u0151r campus that businesses could also utilise,\u201d<\/em> he recalled. (Photo: Andr\u00e1s Adorj\u00e1n)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The title of Distinguished Professor<\/strong> was conferred upon Dr<\/strong> P\u00e9ter B\u00f6r\u00f6cz and Dr P\u00e9ter Tak\u00e1cs<\/strong>, while Associate Professor Dr P\u00e9ter T\u00f6rzs\u00f6k<\/strong>, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, received the Heged\u0171s Gyula Scientific Scholarship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the decision of the University Habilitation Council, two academics completed the requirements of the habilitation process<\/strong>: Viktor J\u00f3zsef Vonjich<\/strong> in the field of crop production and horticultural sciences, and Dr Veronika Keller<\/strong> in the field of business and management sciences. The title of Honorary Master Instructor<\/strong> was conferred upon G\u00e1bor D\u00f3ber<\/strong>, Project Coordinator of the External Department at Audi Hungaria, and upon M\u00f3nika Lengyel<\/strong>, Head of the Gy\u0151r Institute of the G\u00e9zeng\u00faz Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Pro Educatione Award<\/strong> was given to Dr Judit Glavanits<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the De\u00e1k Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, for her outstanding work in the field of cybersecurity law, and to Dr Vikt\u00f3ria Kapcs\u00e1ndi<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Albert K\u00e1zm\u00e9r Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, a recognised lecturer in food sciences. The Bakonyi Istv\u00e1n Excellent Lecturer Award<\/strong> was conferred upon Dr G\u00e9za Herczeg<\/strong>, Master Instructor at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transport Engineering, and upon Csaba K\u0151m\u00edves<\/strong>, Associate Professor at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics, both recognised for their professional excellence and teaching work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Excellent Mentor Award<\/strong> was presented to Dr Eszter M\u00e1ria Jungi<\/strong>, Judge and Chair of the Criminal Division of the Gy\u0151r Regional Court, Dr Tam\u00e1s Vink\u00f3czi<\/strong>, Associate Professor of the Department of Management and Marketing at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics, and Ren\u00e1ta Tihanyi-Kov\u00e1cs<\/strong>, Assistant Professor at the Department of Food Sciences at the Albert K\u00e1zm\u00e9r Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, all of whom support the University\u2019s students in their professional careers. The Worthy Citizen Award<\/strong> was given to Magdolna P\u00e1kozdi<\/strong>, Principal of the Szent-Gy\u00f6rgyi Albert Technical School, who has long supported educational collaborations connected to the University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Golden Level of the Governing Board Certificate of Recognition<\/strong> was awarded to Christian Stengel<\/strong>, Head of Vehicle Development at Audi Hungaria, Tobias Attensperger<\/strong>, Head of Quality and Technical Management of Conventional and Hybrid Drives at Audi AG, and T\u00edmea Szab\u00f3 Iv\u00e1nn\u00e9<\/strong>, Head of the Secretariat of the Governing Board of the University.
