Indian alumnus Amandeep Singh and Chinese alumnus Guo Shaofeng were the special guests at the <\/strong>„Alumni Spotlight”<\/em><\/strong> event held at the Gy\u0151r Innovation Park of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University. As the latest recipients of the <\/strong>„International Alumnus of the Year”<\/em><\/strong> award, they shared valuable experiences with the audience.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University Awards Gala and Media Ball<\/a>, held this January, provided an opportunity for Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University to recognise its most outstanding educators, partners, and students with special honours. At the event, the „International Alumnus of the Year 2024”<\/em> award was presented to two former Sz\u00e9chenyi students, Amandeep Singh from India and Guo Shaofeng from China. Alongside their academic achievements, they earned this recognition for their exemplary community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award winners recently shared insights into their careers at the „Alumni Spotlight”<\/em> event, organised by the University\u2019s Centre for International Programmes and Alumni. Attendees received valuable advice on completing their studies, as well as useful tips on job searching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amandeep Singh earned his Master\u2019s degree at the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Automotive Engineering with the help of the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme. Throughout his studies at SZE, he remained ambitious and persistent in pursuing his goals. „I chose Sz\u00e9chenyi University because of its excellent corporate connections, and I was also drawn to its practical approach to education. From the very beginning, I set a goal for myself\u2014to secure at least an internship position at Audi Hungaria, which I achieved. This success is a strong message to current students: it is worth fighting for our dreams,”<\/em> said the young professional from India, who now works full-time at the major automotive company in Gy\u0151r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„At Sz\u00e9chenyi University, I had the opportunity to learn from lecturers who possess truly relevant industrial expertise and were able to offer tremendous support. The\u00a0Audi Development Camp<\/a>\u00a0short study programme can also significantly boost students\u2019 careers, as it provides valuable experience and important connections\u2014so I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested,”<\/em>\u00a0said Amandeep Singh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also offered two key pieces of advice to international students in attendance. In addition to careful planning and persistent career building, he emphasised the importance of learning the Hungarian language. He noted that, on one hand, making an effort to understand the local culture is a sign of respect, and on the other, even a few Hungarian phrases can help professionals stand out among their peers who do not speak the language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guo Shaofeng arrived in Gy\u0151r from Beijing in 2018, where he earned his Bachelor\u2019s degree in vehicle engineering and his Master\u2019s degree in supply chain management. He explained that beyond the high-quality education, he was also drawn to Hungary by its liveable environment. The young Chinese professional now works as an engineer at BYD, an electric vehicle manufacturer, at its plant in Kom\u00e1rom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„My vision for the future is fundamentally shaped by continuous development, knowledge acquisition, and gaining intercultural experience. I am grateful for the many friends I have made from all over the world and for the Hungarian culture, which I have come to love. At the same time, I would like to travel more and challenge myself in other European countries or even overseas,”<\/em> he shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marcella Telek, Head of the International Relations and Alumni Department within the University\u2019s Centre for International Programmes and Alumni, highlighted that they support former students through various initiatives. „Our University welcomed a significant number of international students for the first time in 2017. Since then, the number of graduates has been steadily increasing, and as a result, our global alumni network is constantly expanding. Our goal is to build a committed community whose members proudly represent Sz\u00e9chenyi University in their home countries and act as ambassadors, spreading its good reputation worldwide,” <\/em>she stated. „We already offer numerous opportunities for interested alumni, including newsletters, lectures, and events, to keep them engaged. In the future, we plan to introduce even more programmes that encourage active participation and to continue recognising the professional achievements of our graduates,” <\/em>she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
