The chess department of the Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University Sports Association (SZESE), which has been operating for 50 years, and the Gy\u0151r Chess Club hosted the Spanish Club D Escacs Llinars and the Greek Skakistikos Omilos Leon Kantia on the campus of Gy\u0151r in the framework of an international programme. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the chess department of the Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University Sports Association (SZESE) is 50 years old, which not only offers competitive chess opportunities to students, but also welcomes children within the framework of the Gy\u0151r Chess Club. Zsolt Szab\u00f3, head of the department, explained that for a long time they have been paying special attention to building international relations, in which they also make use of cross-border application opportunities. The association is currently an active participant in the GAMBIT Erasmus+ project, where clubs from three European Union countries and the Judit Polg\u00e1r Chess Foundation play a role as professional educational organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

„The coaches and players of the Gy\u0151r Chess Club took part in a knowledge-sharing workshop in Heraklion, Greece in May, and this time we were visited by young players from the Greek and Spanish teams. During our programme in Gy\u0151r, we organised our tournament with more than sixty participants, but we also made sure that our partners got to know the university and the city. The meeting was a success and our joint project will continue in Llinars del Vall\u00e8s, Spain, in the summer of 2025. The aim of our cooperation is to promote chess and share teaching methodologies. In addition to face-to-face sessions, the international programme will include a series of regular events in the online space, including tournaments and coaching courses,”<\/em> said the head of the department. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that the members of the club had an exciting time, as after hosting international guests, they also participated in the Budapest Chess Olympiad and the 10th Judit Polg\u00e1r Global Chess Festival. Finally, he added that they continue to welcome Hungarian and foreign students, even youngsters, who want to play chess to join their ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
