Gy\u0151r and the surrounding area will once again be buzzing with visitors on the second weekend of September, the 11th and 12th, for one of the highlights of the Hungarian motorsport calendar. As announced at the press conference for the event, Friday promises to be a real family day. Alongside the spectacular city centre stage, the university\u2019s Gy\u0151r campus will be hosting activities for all ages, including free go-karting, face painting and road safety programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prof. Dr. Ferenc Friedler, the university\u2019s Rector and Vice-President for Scientific Affairs at Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University, spoke about the university\u2019s close ties to motorsport and the importance of nurturing student talent. He emphasised that, alongside modern programmes \u2013 such as the Master\u2019s programme in Motorsport Engineering and the specialised further training programme in Technical Sports Management \u2013 students can gain real-world practical experience that will later give them a competitive advantage in the labour market. \u201cThis year, the SZEnergy Team, developing electric vehicles, won Europe\u2019s most prestigious energy efficiency competition for the fifth consecutive time, setting a world record. The Arrabona Racing Team secured third place overall in the electric category at the Formula Student Spain competition; while SZEngine unveiled its first in-house developed competition car with a hybrid powertrain,\u201d<\/em> he noted. Spectators will see the fourth round of the top-tier Hungarian National Rally Championship and Challenge divisions (ORB\/ORC), Historic and Rally2 championships. A total of 83 crews have entered, five of them competing for the colours of Uni Gy\u0151r WMS, the motorsport section of the university\u2019s sports club. The programme kicks off on Friday with a spectacular prologue in the city centre, with the start and finish ceremonies taking place at Egyetem t\u00e9r. On Saturday, the action will continue on the \u00c9cs-R\u00e1baring and Ravazd\u2013T\u00e9ny\u0151 stages, with a total of eight special stages and nearly 100 kilometres of competitive action,\u201d <\/em>explained Krist\u00f3f Cz\u00e9zinger on behalf of the organising committee. He added that safety is their top priority, which is why they are asking all spectators to follow the races exclusively from the designated viewing points and to comply with the instructions of the marshals, organisers and security staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the ORB, the University team will be represented by the crews Krist\u00f3f Klausz and Viktor B\u00e1n, Vilmos Cseh and Gergely N\u00e9meth, D\u00e1vid Faltusz and R\u00f3bert Balai, as well as Dorka Zagyva and Frida Spitzer, while Bence Hidv\u00e9gi and Fanni Moln\u00e1r will take part in the event as a zero car crew. D\u00e1vid Faltusz and I are neck and neck in the Peugeot Cup, so I\u2019m expecting a fierce battle. I think Friday\u2019s city-centre special stage will be one of the most spectacular parts of the weekend. And my message to the girls is: keep at it, because we can hold our own in motorsport too,\u201d added Dorka Zagyva, last year\u2019s U25 champion.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n D\u00e1vid Faltusz, last year\u2019s Rally2 champion, emphasised that, as a driver from Gy\u0151r, this event is always special to him. \u201cAlthough I\u2019m on home turf, Dorka is a very strong opponent, so I\u2019ll need a good strategy. The atmosphere at the Gy\u0151r Rally is always brilliant; we get to race in front of a large crowd, which provides extra motivation. I\u2019d encourage the residents of Gy\u0151r to come along, as both the city-centre stage and the R\u00e1baring track promise plenty of excitement,\u201d<\/em> he remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bence Hidv\u00e9gi is competing in Gy\u0151r for the first time as a driver. \u201cI\u2019d like to learn as much as possible, improve and have a successful weekend. As a zero car crew, however, we have a particularly important role to play, as we must ensure the safety of the spectators before the field arrives.
