Improving student accommodation is one of the key priorities of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University. In line with this objective, the institution has terminated the lease agreement for the Cuha Street building, which had operated as a workers\u2019 hostel for almost a decade, resumed direct management of the property, and begun a comprehensive refurbishment programme. As a result of the investment, the facility will once again fulfil its original purpose by providing accommodation for students from September onwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The renovation works, which commenced on 1 July, include the creation of modern accommodation facilities as well as the installation of up-to-date security and asset protection systems. This rising popularity is reflected in the fact that around half of last year\u2019s first-year students came from Gy\u0151r-Moson-Sopron County and the three neighbouring counties, while the remainder enrolled from other parts of Hungary. The international student community, representing nearly 90 countries, is also expanding year by year, supported by the institution\u2019s achievements in global university rankings. All of this is increasing demand for student accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe refurbishment of the Cuha Street building will improve students\u2019 living conditions and help us ensure a high-quality environment for those studying with us over the long term. The presence of university students is of great value to Gy\u0151r and the wider region: they generate growing demand for local services, contribute to a more vibrant urban life, and support regional economic development through their knowledge and future participation in the labour market,\u201d<\/em> emphasised Gerg\u0151 L\u0151rincz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to D\u00e1vid V\u00e1lyi Nagy, President of the University Student Union, the investment addresses one of the students\u2019 most important needs. \u201cAffordable student accommodation is not merely a matter of convenience; for many students, it is one of the fundamental prerequisites for access to higher education.
