The Albert K\u00e1zm\u00e9r Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University took part as a co-organiser in the FAO online consultation, which aimed to support the academic preparations for the 35th FAO Regional Conference. The recent consultation sought to contribute to evidence-based policymaking related to sustainable and resilient agri-food systems through the scientific achievements of the higher education and research sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Representatives of universities and professional organisations from across the region attended the meeting. At the beginning of the programme, Dr Tam\u00e1s T\u00f3th, Dean and Research Professor, introduced the Faculty, highlighting how the institution, founded in 1818, combines more than two centuries of agricultural education traditions with modern technological solutions. Participants were also introduced to the faculty\u2019s Smart Farm infrastructure, where data-collecting robots, drones, precision crop production and automated livestock farming systems, as well as modern food industry laboratories, support educational and research activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Albert K\u00e1zm\u00e9r Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University joined the FAO regional consultation as co-organiser. (Photo: Andr\u00e1s Adorj\u00e1n)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The event, which focused on strengthening the relationship between science and policymaking, was organised around three main thematic areas: sustainability, the resilience of agri-food systems, and financing transformation in Europe and Central Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The discussion also highlighted the experiences of countries across the region. \u201cIt was interesting to see that despite geographical and developmental differences, we face very similar challenges in agriculture. The impacts of climate change, the difficulties of developing rural infrastructure, and issues related to knowledge transfer are common concerns in several countries,\u201d<\/em> said Dr Anik\u00f3 Juh\u00e1sz, adviser to the Albert K\u00e1zm\u00e9r Faculty of Mosonmagyar\u00f3v\u00e1r and coordinator of the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She added that the cooperation is driven by a dual objective. \u201cSustainability is one of the strategic priorities of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University, while the FAO is a leading international actor in this field.
