Students and staff of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University won two gold, three silver, and five bronze medals at the country\u2019s largest university sports event, the festival of the Hungarian University\u2013College National Championship (MEFOB Fest). The event, held in recent days, attracted more than 1,500 athletes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of participation, MEFOB Fest is the largest domestic multi-sport event, organized for the fifth time by the Hungarian University\u2013College Sports Federation. This year\u2019s host was the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, where over 1,500 athletes competed in 13 sports for championship titles on its campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this year\u2019s festival, students and instructors from Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University \u2014 organizers of the 2024 edition<\/a> \u2014 won a total of ten medals: two gold, three silver, and five bronze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darts featured in the MEFOB programme for the first time this year: Brigitta Linda S\u00e1ndor won the women\u2019s student category, while Orsolya Zalav\u00e1ri took bronze. Regina Vintze claimed gold in the women\u2019s 60-shot air rifle event, remaining unbeaten. In the women\u2019s water polo tournament, after exciting matches, the Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University team finished second with six points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the university basketball championship Final Four, UNI Gy\u0151r SZESE represented the University in the women\u2019s competition, while Mosonmagyar\u00f3v\u00e1r UNI Gy\u0151r competed in the men\u2019s. The women\u2019s team, as defending champions, reached the final again and ultimately finished second, while the men\u2019s team secured third place. Fanni Baffy and Lilla Rozm\u00e1n (women), as well as B\u00e1lint K\u00f6cse (men), were selected for the All-Star team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the MEFOB ergometer competition, Bal\u00e1zs Kov\u00e1cs finished third in the men\u2019s university beginner individual category. Zolt\u00e1n Bendeg\u00faz Varga also earned a bronze medal in the amateur combined individual table tennis event. In the instructors\u2019 combined individual category, G\u00e1bor Patonai finished second, while Dr G\u00e1bor \u00c9l\u0151 took third place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Tam\u00e1s Gy\u00f6m\u00f6rei, Head of the Centre for Sports and Recreation of Sz\u00e9chenyi Istv\u00e1n University and President of its sports club (SZESE), highlighted that beyond the now almost customary basketball medals, it was especially pleasing to see the strong performance of their table tennis players under the leadership of Dr G\u00e1bor \u00c9l\u0151. \u201cHopefully, alongside these amateur medals, we will soon achieve success again at the professional level in this sport.
